Leslie Sanchez founded Geneva-based Variance Financial in 2009. Prior to forming Variance Financial, Leslie was a Senior Vice-President at The Risk Management Group, where he advised mid-size corporates, public institutions and pension funds, mainly in France, Switzerland and Spain, on financial risk management. Persons of contact were typically CFOs and Treasurers, as well as Senior Treasury Officials.
Leslie was directly involved in the hedging of over $5 billion in notional principal across the spectrum of derivatives and hedging advisory transactions. He quantified and analyzed exposures using multiple methodologies, structured risk hedging proposals using sophisticated derivatives, and accompanied clients during the negotiation with banks and the trade execution process.
Earlier, Leslie was responsible for designing and developing the financial technology infrastructure, from validating the derivatives pricing models to programming the risk calculation engine. This allowed him not only to master the business financial aspects, but also to have a deep understanding of the technology infrastructure behind.
Prior to this work, Leslie started his career at Barclays Bank at the Investment Management Department. He received a Master of Science Degree in Microelectronics and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Carlos III (Madrid) with the best academic profile. The diplomas were given on the basis of a project on ÔÇťHardware Implementation of a Biometric System of Hand RecognitionÔÇŁ, which received several academic awards. He is a CFA charterholder and a certified FRM (certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals).
Leslie is a passionate soccer fun and is highly interested in political economics, subject about which he frequently writes. He speaks French and Spanish fluently. Leslie is a British national and resides in the Geneva Area.
